Medford Police Prepares For Legalization Of Marijuana

As pot becomes legal on July 1st, police are getting ready. Medford Police Lieutenant Mike Budreau said legalization of the drug doesn’t make their job any easier, at least initially. Budreau said police expect some people will abuse the system and break the law.

“They’re going to be selling it, they’re going to be trying to make money, they’re going to be smoking it out in public and those are going to be the issues”, said Budreau.

Right now, police are brushing up on the new law, since it’s more complicated than what was previously in effect. Before, if a person did not have a medical marijuana card, they weren’t allowed to have any pot. Now, penalties depend on where it’s being used, how much a person has and their age.
