As medical marijuana sales surge, Maryland licenses eight more dispensaries

Maryland’s medical cannabis earnings are heading toward $100 million in their first year, so in an effort to help keep up with demand, the state approved permits for eight new MMJ dispensaries this week.

That will bring the number of retailers in Maryland to 65 – more than half the 102 retail outlets expected to start, The Baltimore Sun reported.

According to the newspaper, the number of patients certified to receive medical marijuana in Maryland increased 27% – from 27,585 in the end of May to 35,019 in June.

While the MMJ industry keeps growing in the country, notably in Baltimore and Montgomery counties, hostility in different areas remains.
