Colorado ushers in 2020 with new marijuana market opportunities

Potential sales-boosting marijuana laws go into effect in Colorado this week that will permit home delivery of medical marijuana and on-site cannabis consumption, contingent on local approvals.

In moves that could improve Colorado’s marijuana business climate:

  • Starting Jan. 1, licenses can be issued for “marijuana hospitality establishments” such as cannabis cafes, dispensary tasting rooms, marijuana bus tours and designated areas of hotels.
  • Starting Jan. 2, permits can be issued for medical marijuana delivery, with retail cannabis distribution slated to begin in 2021.

Another notable rule change in Colorado: Vitamin E acetate, polyethylene glycol (and medium chain triglycerides are prohibited in the manufacture of marijuana concentrate or products intended for vaporization.

New regulations for packaging and labeling infused marijuana edibles products in Washington favor the state’s cannabis companies. The revised rules, recently approved by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board, extend from Jan. 1 until July 1 the deadline for processors and producers to create compliant packaging, among other changes, The Spokesman Review reported. The new rules resolve some concerns raised by an announcement almost a year ago that the industry feared would result in many types of cannabis-infused candy being removed from store shelves.
