Ohio licenses two processors, two testing labs in medical cannabis buildup

In a move to creep up Ohio’s medical marijuana program, state regulators have issued provisional licenses to 2 extra cannabis processors and two more testing labs.

The permits bring the total number of processors to nine, with four more applications in progress, according to state officials. There are currently four accredited testing labs.

Ohio legalized medical marijuana in 2016 but is months behind a Sept. 8 target for making products available to patients.

Licensed cultivators just recently started planting bud. It will still take four to six months for those plants to reach maturity and then they need to be processed into MMJ products.

The two new processors that won provisional licenses are Green Investment Partners of Columbus and Standard Wellness of Gibsonburg.

Provisional testing permits were issued to Columbus-based Battelle Memorial Institute and North Coast Testing Laboratories of Streetsboro.
